Apprenticeships

Earn. Learn. Experience.
Be part of something incredible.

If you’re looking to start your career after secondary school, our unique Apprenticeship schemes will offer you new challenges every day. You’ll get exposure to some of the world’s most cutting-edge technologies along with practical insights into the innovative ways we use them to provide intelligence to our customers.

It's a unique opportunity to develop advanced skills, while helping us to grow our technical capabilities. You'll learn while you earn, gain a recognised qualification and build your experience and confidence in the workplace. We want you to get ahead by building on the things that make you, you.

We offer two apprenticeships:

  • CyberFirst Degree Level Apprenticeship in Cyber Security

Our unique Cyber Security Degree Level Apprenticeship will offer you new challenges every day. You’ll get exposure to some of the world’s most cutting-edge technologies along with practical insights into the innovative ways we use them to provide cyber security to our customers.

This is a Degree Level Apprenticeship like no other. Working with GCHQ, including the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC), you’ll gain unique insights into a world that you won’t find on any university course. Our work is constantly evolving and always challenging, giving you lots of new opportunities to explore and huge scope for development.

Successful applicants will be offered the opportunity to earn while you learn, with a salary and all the benefits that you would expect from a Civil Service organisation. All whilst gaining a recognised degree. You will also be able to build your experience and confidence in the workplace. Over the three-year programme, you’ll get a mix of university-delivered classroom and lab education in state-of-the-art facilities along with technical training, mentoring and job shadowing, and hands-on, work-based placements and projects. Then, after successful completion of the three-year Degree Level Apprenticeship and subject to business needs and meeting the necessary criteria, you may be offered full-time employment.

As part of the Apprenticeship you will be a member of the CyberFirst Community, which aims to offer peer mentoring and advice from cyber security graduates and professionals. Throughout the apprenticeship you will be part of a close-knit active network, providing opportunities for support and learning.

  • SOFTWARE ENGINEERING DEGREE APPRENTICESHIPS (MANCHESTER)

We’re looking for motivated, technically orientated individuals to join our three-year BSc Honours Degree Apprenticeship scheme based in Manchester, starting in September 2018.

The programme will lead to exciting roles within GCHQ where you’ll be collaborating with colleagues and working in teams across the business to build technology that helps catch terrorists, and improves our ability to tackle threats to national security.  Over the course of the three years you’ll enjoy exhilarating, hands-on work to help us build and maintain some of the world's most sophisticated electronic equipment – all the while working towards a BSc Honours Degree. You’ll be a vital part of a team that ensures the UK Government can operate in cyber space with confidence and can stay ahead of the pace demanded by the evolving digital world.

Our Degree Apprenticeship programme combines university accredited classroom and lab education with technical training, mentoring and job shadowing, and work-based placements and projects. The programme combines a mix of classroom based learning, and placements within a software related business area.

You’ll be taking on real business challenges in software engineering, and developing a broad range of competencies including teamwork, communication and leadership skills. You will receive full training and support throughout the programme, as well as a salary and all the benefits you’d expect from a Civil Service organisation.

Don’t miss out on this great alternative to university if you have (or are expecting) three A levels at BBC or above (or equivalent), including 2 A levels in STEM subjects.
